A lived and learned history of Canada brings the basis for constant, reflexive consultation of ideas and anecdotes through the use of imaginary tropes grouped in relation to each other and offers a heightened interplay of information throughout each tableau. This new series nods to the Southern Ontarian experience, finessing Canadiana and social parodies through whimsy and masquerading."

PEACEFUL, BRUTAL AND STRANGE

 Lalani Jennings Contemporary Art is delighted to announce PEACEFUL, BRUTAL AND STRANGE the debut exhibition by James Hewitt.

The exhibition presents a series of new drawings reflecting Hewitt’s lived experience of a black man growing up in Southern Ontario. Inspired by the artists Bill Taylor and Phillip Guston, and mid-century comic book illustration, Hewitt’s drawings are a comical and emotional reflection upon Canadiana.

 PEACEFUL, BRUTAL AND STRANGE runs at Lalani Jennings Contemporary Art until Saturday July 22.
